The honest reason to consider it is not luxury. It is this: in a house of sixteen people, somebody is going to spend a meaningful portion of the holiday cooking. Usually the same person. Usually the person who organised the trip.
A private chef is how that person gets to sit down.
What does a private chef cost, and what is on the menu?
We are not going to publish numbers we cannot stand behind, so: pricing and menus depend on your group size, your dates and your market. A chef for twelve in Indio during festival season is a different proposition from a chef for eight in Frisco in October.

What occasions does a private chef actually land for?
Not every trip. These ones:
- Family reunions. The multi-generational week where three families are trying to coordinate who is cooking Tuesday. A chef removes the negotiation.
- Milestone birthdays. A guest at Baydream Believer came for spring break celebrating two birthdays in one trip. That is a night worth handing over.
- Graduation trips and sweet sixteens. A group at Harbor View in Corolla celebrated a sweet 16 and a high school graduation in the same stay. One catered dinner turns a nice week into an occasion.
- Bachelorette weekends. A group of twelve took Coachella Sol Haus for a bachelorette and said everyone fit comfortably, with the upstairs couch practically holding all of them for a movie night. Twelve people, one weekend, nobody wanting to be on grocery duty.
- Festival weekends. During Coachella and Stagecoach, restaurant tables and your own energy are both in short supply. Dinner arriving at the house is worth more than usual.
Why is a private chef a direct-booking thing?
Because a platform has no checkbox for it.
The big listing sites are built to sell you a standardised product: nights, headcount, a fixed amenity list. There is no field for “we would like someone to cook Thursday,” and no one on the other end who could arrange it if there were.
We are a small family-run team, we know these houses and we know the markets. Adding a chef is a message to us, not a feature request to a platform. It is the same reason a late checkout or an early arrival is a conversation rather than a dropdown — which we get into in booking direct vs. Airbnb and VRBO.
When is a private chef the wrong call?
Two genuine concessions, because we would rather you spend the money well.
Plenty of groups actively want to cook. And our kitchens are set up for exactly that. A guest at Baydream Believer specifically valued how thoughtfully it was equipped for cooking family dinners. A group at OC Ultimate Family Escape cooked all their meals together and said sharing those moments was the point of the trip. If that is your group, a chef would take something away rather than add to it.
It is an added cost. Which means it is usually most worth it for one or two special nights, not every night of the week. The reunion dinner, the birthday, the last night before everyone drives home. Cook the rest.
And one more piece of honesty: kitchen stock varies. Guests at Pickleball Paradise wished for better kitchen items — they found only very small bowls and bought their own for a soup night. We would rather tell you that than have you find out at six in the evening.
